I was introduced to a great travelling company, Knowmad Adventures. Knowmad Adventures specializes in active, authentic and sustainable private and small group travel to South America. They focus on Chile, Argentina, the Patagonia and have recently expanded trips to Peru and Ecuador.
I really like that Knowmad trips are about finding the hidden trails, meeting the people whose footsteps have created them, and treading lightly along the path of discovery. If I was ever planning a trip to South America, I would want to see all the things that they go after.
Some things that characterize our trips:
To us, the perfect trip is one where stress melts away. We touch, smell, eat, see and do things we've never imagined. Knowledgeable locals eager to share their homeland help us gain an intimacy with the communities and landscapes we visit. The perfect trip treads lightly, respecting both culture and environment. It pushes us physically just the right amount and rewards us with delicious food and incredible places to stay. The perfect trip is an experience, a journey that sets us free.
GROUP DYNAMICS
Our fixed departure trips have, on average, fewer than six people. Traveling in small groups gives visitors an intimate experience without jeopardizing often fragile cultures and environments. We're able to stay in a small boutique hotel perched above the tides and gallop freely on horseback across Patagonian plains.
GO LOCAL
Knowmad Adventures prides itself on having the absolute best local bilingual guides. Who better to tell you about Patagonia than someone from the area? This local expertise enhances cultural interaction and makes for a richer experience.
SAFETY
Our guides and local outfitters are the best there are. They are trained in first aid, know the area, and are highly skilled at what they do. You are in good hands with Knowmad Adventures.
BE FREE
Our small-group trips combine the best of group and independent travel. With some evenings and in-town days free, you'll have plenty of time to get recommendations and explore on your own.
SUSTAINABILITY
Knowmad Adventures partners with local hotels, outfitters and transportation companies, so your trip costs are widely distributed in the places we visit. Many of our partners are small, family-owned businesses. We work with organizations that strive for minimal environmental impact and do the little things, be it reusable lunch containers for picnicking on the trail, biodegradable soap in the back-country, or hotels with green lighting.
SWEET DREAMS
Whether in a remote lodge, boutique hotel, traditional estancia, aboard a yacht, or in a luxury base camp, our trips feature comfortable accommodations that complement their surroundings. We seek out intimate places with lots of character but never sacrifice cleanliness, atmosphere, and security.
GETTING THERE
We believe the destination is in the journey. You may find yourself kayaking to the riverside cottage, riding horseback to the estancia, or rafting to base camp. When longer overland traverses and transfers are necessary, we travel in comfortable private vehicles.
Knowmad Adventures is a great company that will help you plan the best trip possible!

Sounds like an amazing resource for planning your next vacation. Thanks for letting me know about it!
Having the right guide in over seas travel makes a world of difference... I would love to visit South America one day. Chile speaks to me :)
I love to travel and typically I plan my own activities, etc. but there are some places I'd be a little nervous to visit. I like that their guides have a lot of experience in the area which makes it safer!
I wanted to travel so badly before having children and look forward to the teen so we can still do so. I will check out this site a little more as well. They sound very helpful
I want to go places but am clueless about actual vacation planning. This would be helpful!
We love to travel and research is key! Thanks for sharing!
