I had the opportunity to review Smiley Halloween Cookies. I am a huge cookie person so I was thrilled when I received the Smiley Halloween Cookies. I am pleased to say that I LOVED these cookies. They had to be one of the best cookies that I have ever had. My favorite cookie is a sugar cookie and to my surprise the cookies was sugar cookies!

I first have to rave about how my cookies were shipped to me. They were in this cute little smiley box. They were in perfect shape also! Not one broken cookie! 


The real test of these cookies was getting my children to like them. When I first showed Haley and Amberly the Smiley Halloween Cookies, their faces lit up with excitement. They was ready to start eating the cookies! After taking one bit, they told me how good the cookies were. After obtaining the children's approval, I knew that I had to try them. 

I loved the taste of the cookies. They arrived fresh. The candy corn actually tasted alright to me. ~I am usually not a candy corn eater.~ It had a sweet taste. 


These Halloween Cookies would make the perfect addition to a Halloween Gift Basket or make the perfect Halloween party snack!

My Cape Cod Magic Review & Giveaway

I really enjoy finding great books to read to my children and I believe that I did just that! My Cape Cod Magic written by J Bean and Chris Palmer is a wonderfully written book. I really love the illustrations and they way it was written. Haley and Amberly really enjoyed the rhymes through out My Cape Cod Magic. I also really like that the portion of the proceeds goes to the Cape Cod Cultural Center for educational programs for children. 


Amberly really enjoyed all the beautiful illustrations. After I read it to her, she would spend quite a lot of time just flipping through My Cape Cod Magic looking at the pictures. She especially enjoyed the underwater picture. Haley loved listening to the story. 


I say this is a great bedtime story!


My Cape Cod Magic arose from a visit with the Palmers' granddaughter Emelia. The four-year-old expressed frustration at not being able to read. This gave Ms. Palmer an idea. "I had written the Little Cape Cod Witch magical adventures for middle-graders. It was clear Emelia loved beautiful pictures and rhyme and the rhythm of words. I think most kids do. I know I did. And I thought it would be helpful and fun to match an engaging poem with classic picture-postcard images that iconically captured the Cape. When I was learning to read, the images really pulled me in, and I wanted this book to do the same." The fact that her husband was a fourteenth-generation Cape Codder only strengthened her conviction in this project.

Hooper Finds a Family, A Hurricane Katrina Dog's Survival Tale is a new children's book for ages 8-12.

I really enjoyed reading Hooper Finds a Family, A Hurricane Katrina Dog's Survival Tale to my children. Hooper is endearing, funny and overall a survivor. Hooper is a spunky dog whose warm spirit and goofy personality are charming and irresistible. 

I found this book to be heart touching since it was based on a true story and written to be Hooper's experience from being left homeless from Hurricane Katrina to his journey to find a new family. He tells of the terrifying force of Katrina, his trials in the shelter, and being the new dog on the block in a city far from  home.

I found this to be a refreshing point of view from the tragic events of Hurricane Katrina. Many animals were left behind, but I had never sat down and thought about how it actually was for all the animals. 

Another great aspect of this book is that some of the proceedings from the book will go to Labs4rescue, an organization that matches stray dogs with new families. 

Jane Paley adopted Hooper through Labs4rescue. Today, Jane brings Hooper, a certified therapy dog, to visit patients in hospitals, nursing homes, hospices, and physical therapy centers, to bring joy and comfort to those in need. Hooper is also involved in the reading for buddies program which matches dogs with young children learning to read.

I found this story of a dog left during Hurricane Katrina to be a overwhelming story of strength, courage and love. I highly recommend reading this book not only for yourself but for your children. It will teach them an underlying lesson of how to be strong in times where you are down.

Back to School: Galloping Gertrude: By Motorcar in 1908 Review & Giveaway

The year is 1908. Grandfather Hill buys a Pierce-Arrow Touring Car. He invites his grandchildren Timothy and Beth to go on a thirty-mile drive and appoints Grandmother Hill as the navigator. New technology soon meets resistance since Automobile vs. Horse is the prevailing sentiment. With no real roads, signs, or gas stations, the trip becomes an adventure as the travelers encounter one mishap after another. Still, the journey might have gone a little smoother, if only Grandfather Hill had listened to his navigator! 


Galloping Gertrude: By Motorcar in 1908 includes color illustrations, photographs, automotive timeline from 1769 to 2011, glossary, index of names, websites to visit and a list for further reading.


I had to read this book to Haley. Amberly really was not that interested. Haley really like hearing about the different "adventures" throughout this book. But her favorite part was looking at the illustrations and photographs. I really like reading and showing her things for our history. 


This book is perfect for older children that are in school. It will help them learn about the history of the automobile.


I found it quite interesting and learned a few things that I did not know!

BeadforLife Review

BeadforLife creates sustainable opportunities for impoverish women to lift themselves out of poverty by creating a circle of connection between women in Uganda and women around the world. Women in Uganda work hard to roll beautiful bead jewelry out of recycled paper and harvest shea nuts to make shea butter. Women worldwide sell these items and educate themselves and others about extreme poverty. The profits return to Uganda and fund health care, housing and business training intiatives.


Organizations like this always pulls at my heart strings. I was very honored to share the story of BeadforLife. I knew the minute that I read about this, I had to share it with my readers. I love the fact that Ugandan women turn colorful recycled paper into beautiful beads. Women in Northern Uganda gather shea nuts and press them into shea butter for cosmetics and soaps. Poverty is a huge issue in Uganda. I love that a very cute and fun project is being done to help raise money for the people in Uganda. 

I was sent one of these wonderful bracelets made by the Ugandan women. It is so pretty! I love the color of my bracelet. It is a pretty blue color. I love how the beads are made. It is not like the plastic beads you find at the store.
