Now, I am not a teacher..but Teaching Is...really made me appreciate all my teachers that I had while I was in school and my childrens' teachers. There were many parts that made me smile and a few that really made me laugh.
For every educator who has felt frustrated, unappreciated, and overwhelmed, Teaching Is... reinforces the power of teachers to inspire, motivate and make a difference. This small book with a big message goes beyond the curriculum, celebrating what true education is all about. While I was reading Teaching Is... it dawned on me that I had never gave it real thought about all the stuff a teacher has to deal with. I never realized how much one person has to deal with on a daily basis. Not only does a teacher have to deal with students but he or she has to deal with the parents. I know that it can be rough and stressful at times. There can be students that really push a teacher to the edge and it can be hard to deal with all that pressure.
I say this because it reminds me of when Haley first started preschool and got diagnosed with ADHD. Her teacher really was pushed to the limits with Haley. But at the end of the year, we both could tell a huge difference in Haley. Since that first year, she has really came a long way. I learned through her teacher and different resources on how to manage Haley's ADHD. I really do not know what I would have done without Ms. Terra.
So, after reading Teaching Is...I had a bigger appreciation for all teachers. I appreciate that they are there to help my girls grow and learn in a positive manner. I will always be grateful for all teachers.
I highly suggest gifting Teaching Is... to a special teacher. It will show him or her that you do care and you do understand teaching can be hard! Now don't get me wrong, this book is not all about the hardship of teaching. It is based on mixture of crazy, hard, funny and great times of teaching.
The author, Marjan Glavac, really knew what he was talking about. He is an experienced educator with more than 29 years of classroom experience! Can you imagine all the crazy situations he dealt with?!

I think all parents should be issued this book, the first day of Kindergarten for their child. I am always trying to help my children's teachers. As a mom who worked in head-start with the teachers when my oldest first started, it gave me some real insight on what teachers have to go through. I remember saying one time, can't you just kick them out.. lol I could never be a teacher. Ever.
