My first thoughts when I first heard Skillet Bacon Jam was "What in the world?" So, what is Skillet Bacon Jam? You take niman ranch bacon and render it down along with onions, balsamic and other spices. It cooks for several hours until it is a perfect blend of smoky, tangy, savory and slightly sweet...basically spreadable bacony goodness! It is USDA approved.
I have to be honest, when I first opened up my package of skillet bacon jam, I was a little bit turned off by the overall look. But the it smelled really good.
I used my bacon jam on some hamburgers. I just lathered both sides of the hamburger and cooked away. It was actually really good! It has this sweet, bacon taste. I usually am not a fan of onions but I could not even taste it once it was cooked!
